With all the busy schedules we have been keeping, today was a great break. I didn’t realize how much we needed a day to get away from the deep stories we have been working with, and just take a day for ourselves.
We needed to experience Panama, so we could leave here with happy memories, and not only the sadness brought on by our work in the field. The laughter and smiles while we fed the monkeys, jumped off the houseboat, canoed to the waterfall and jumped off the waterfall were needed. It was nice to take a step back and remember that there is happiness in Panama, not just poverty and sad stories. Plus, how many people can say they took a canoe out on the Panama Canal?
Our experiences today taught us a lot about one another. For the first time we were able to enjoy each other’s company in a non-professional environment. We learned that Chris is a daredevil, most of us enjoy taking risks, that Mitch is really witty and so many other things. All in all, we just needed a day to enjoy nature and each others company to boost our spirits for one more day of work in the field. I think today will be the day we look back on with smiles.
